Description

A Navajo Chief's Style Weaving
c. 1940

native handspun wool, aniline dyes

Provenance:
From the Estate of Liz Claiborne and Arthur Ortenberg

Dimensions: 62 x 55 inches

Condition Report*: In overall good to fair condition. No holes; warp and weft intact. 30% of weaving faded on one side. Bleeding of red dye onto 2" ivory area. Bleeding of gray/black onto brown stripes along its length on one side. One stain approx. 3" x 4". Selvedge with a couple of breaks. Corner ties intact. No apparent restoration.
