DescriptionGREAT WHITE SHARK JAWS
The Great White Shark, Carcharodon carcharias, also known as White Pointer, White shark, or White Death, is an exceptionally large lamniform shark found in coastal surface waters in all major oceans. Reaching lengths of 20 feet, the great white shark is the world's largest known predatory fish. Great white sharks primarily eat fish (including rays, tuna, and smaller sharks), dolphins, porpoises and whale carcasses. They are also known to eat pinnipeds such as seals, fur seals, sea lions and sometimes sea turtles. The great white shark is regarded as an apex predator with its only real threats being from humans and, in at least one incident, the Orca, or Killer Whale. The present specimen is a set of jaws from a shark caught in the 1980s off the coast of Australia. It was a female measuring around 16 feet in length. The largest upper teeth are 2⅛ inches long and the whole jaw measures 23 x 24 inches. The great white is now a protected species so jaws are difficult to obtain, with most coming from old collections.
