AFRICAN SPOTTED HYENA SKULL

This is the complete skull from a large male hyena showing only moderate dental wear. Although commonly referred to as scavengers, the hyena obtains most of its nourishment from hunting, in which these incredibly powerful jaws and thick pyramid-shaped molars are of invaluable assistance. It is often reported that their jaws are the most powerful in all of the animal kingdom, relative to body size, capable even of crushing elephant bones. This skull has been professionally cleaned and mounted on a beautifully finished walnut panel, and measures 10½ inches in length.
