    Father of well-known Texan artist, Julian Onderdonk, Robert Jenkins Onderdonk attended the National Academy of Design and the Art Students League of New York in 1875, where he studied under William Merritt Chase. He traveled to San Antonio in 1878, where he taught and painted. In 1889, he moved to Dallas and accepted a salaried position with the Art Students League of Dallas. Then in 1896, he returned to San Antonio. As a portrait, figure, landscape, and still-life painter, Robert Jenkins Onderdonk's work was shown in numerous exhibitions in San Antonio, Dallas, and Fort Worth. His paintings are in the collections of the Witte Museum, San Antonio, Dallas Museum of Art, and Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.


    Condition Report*: Sheet is laid down on J. Whatman 1887 paper measuring 14.5 x 15.5 inches; there appears to be moderate to heavy overall paper discoloration with some tiny pinpoints of foxing in areas without pigment; evidence of moderate mat burn along edges; sheet is very slightly undulating; framed under glass. Framed Dimensions 18.75 X 17.75 Inches
