The figures depicted in this preliminary study for The Saturday Evening Post are George and Sybilla Zimmer. Sybilla did not appear on the final cover, released March 17, 1945; however, she was subsequently featured, alongside George, on the magazine's well-recognized cover titled, The Gossips, on March 6, 1948. George Zimmer modeled for a total of seven Post covers.
The present work hung on display on the wall of George Zimmer's game room, which hosted many a poker night attended by none other than Rockwell himself, as well as other famous Post artists such as George Hughes and Mead Schaeffer in Arlington, Vermont.

Condition Report*:
Sheet hinged to mount in reverse upper left and upper right corners; light discoloration along the sheet edges; sheet appears to be undulating along the left and right edges under mat; scattered handling creases throughout composition, with multiple creases and/or possibly repaired tears along the left and right extreme edges; areas of discoloration throughout composition; not examined outside of frame. Framed Dimensions 39.125 X 35.375 Inches
