    Watercolor and gouache on buff paper
    14 x 11 inches (35.6 x 27.9 cm) (sheet)
    Signed and dated lower left: C. M. Russell (with artist's cipher) / 1900

    This lot will be included in the C.M. Russell catalogue raisonné, no. CR.NE.795.

    PROVENANCE:
    Albert Evans Simonson and Patricia Loud Simonson, Massachusetts;
    Gifted by the above to the present owner, 1965.

    Condition Report*: Paper is in stable condition commensurate with age, and there is slight toning visible overall. Paper is mounted verso to the custom mat at the right, left, and lower edges.  There is a small tear approximately 3/4-inch in length in the background area between the horses left legs. Edges of paper are in good condition.
