A Senufo Helmet Mask, kponyugo
Ivory Coast, mid to late 20th century

Carved of blackened wood in a typical zoomorphic form: a large cow head with a human nose, crocodile mouth open showing sharply pointed teeth, tusks from mouth and on snout, small goat horns, a chameleon on top, long antelope horns. In fair condition, proper left ear tip chipped off, tip of proper left horn absent, front left tooth missing, high points rubbed, scrapes on the horns and tusks.
