Description
A Dogon Door, dege tanMali, 19th century or earlier
Heavy hardwood with dark brown patina from age and use as a granary door or shutter. Four rows of abstract standing human figures in high relief, each with a pyramidal head, thin torso, hands held to waist. A middle row of two bands with checkerboard pattern (one on the diagonal), their points meeting near the center of the door. Narrow side panel of diamonds in low relief. "A37" inscribed in white ink and a round label inscribed 7956 on back. In very good condition, appropriate for its age, origin, and medium. Custom metal stand.
