A Dan Kran Mask, kagle
Ivory Coast, early 20th century

A large mask, with great sculptural qualities. Carved as a simian head, with deep-set triangular eyeholes, articulated lower jaw which would snap up an down in performances. Encrusted black patina with trace remains of white pigment on the teeth. It has a cloth headcover with a wide headband of beads, cowrie shells and metal bells. In very good condition, appropriate for its age and materials. Mounted with screws onto a custom wood base.
