A Dan-Guere Figure
Ivory Coast, First half of the 20th century

The standing figure wears a traditional gle or n'gre mask with two pairs of incurving horns crossing the face, the tips adjoined at the forehead, another pair of horns rising above head. The articulated arms attached with nails to the shoulders. The blackened figure is embellished with aluminum teeth and fiber anklets. In good condition, the proper left front foot missing, the lower right arm repaired, the proper right hand deficient. Mounted to a wood base.
