Mary Little (Irish, born 1958) is known for the innovative way she manipulates form and textiles into singular, thought provoking chairs. Now in her new home-city of Los Angeles, Little has been inspired in ways that she would never have imagined. In her new work, she has allowed herself to slip out of her design mindset and has taken the freedom to create non-functional works.
In the new Drumlin Series - inspired by the landscape of soft, undulating farmland in Northern Ireland, (where the artist grew up) - Little has manipulated artist's canvas and created a series of screens or reliefs which hang in space or from the wall. These rhythmic, monochromatic forms cast diffuse, repetitive shadows with a soothing effect.
