This painting by Olin Travis, designed as a cover for a book, shows Travis's versatility as an artist. He was able to effortlessly switch back and forth between abstraction and realism. The abstract painting on the left is thick with impasto and brushstrokes are clearly visible. On the right, the brushstrokes are mostly invisible.
