    Born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas, painter and printmaker Veronica Helfensteller was a founding member of the Fort Worth Circle. Much of her work, especially the lithographs, is characterized by dream-like moods and fantastic imagery. Fisherwomen is such an example of her particular brand of Surrealism, which often focused on women and animals. She was also known for working in a style characterized by dramatic contrast of light and dark, like those found in Bird's Nest. Helfensteller has been widely exhibited and is represented in the collections of the Dallas Museum of Art; the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; the Museum of Fine Arts, Santa Fe; and the Old Jail Art Center, Albany, Texas.
