40 x 24 inches (101.6 x 61.0 cm)
Signed and dated lower left: David Brownlow / 57
Acquired by the present owner from the above.
David Brownlow, a self-taught painter, was a member of the Fort Worth Circle. His work is popular among Texas art collectors for his use of trowels and putty knives to create a thick impasto on the surfaces of his paintings. Architectural structures were the frequent subject of his abstract imagery. Brownlow had a talent for depicting buildings, like cathedrals and ancient ruins, which become sympathetic characters and ethereal reminders of ages past.
The surface appears slightly dirty, with a few scattered flecks of paint loss; a few areas with faint craquelure; otherwise, the work remains in very good condition. Framed Dimensions 42 X 26 Inches
