As one of the premier sculptors in Texas, Charles Umlauf's sculptures range in style from realism to lyrical abstraction. Umlauf often explored spirituality, especially Judeo-Christianity, in his sculpture. Madonna and Child, is a powerful example of his exploration of a classic Christian subject. His sculptures are found in public collections across the United States, including the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; the Witte Museum; the Dallas Museum of Art; the Smithsonian Institution; and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
