DescriptionROBERT WOOD (1889-1979)
Spring Song, 1946
Oil on canvas
25in. x 30in.
Signed and dated lower left
Painted five years after Robert Wood left Texas, there is no denying that the Texas landscape, Jose Arpa, and the legacy of Julian Onderdonk, changed Robert Wood's art forever. From his "Buckeye" paintings, to his light-filled canvases, Robert Wood was transformed by the Lone Star State.
In this painting, there is interplay between light and shadow, particularly between the shady areas of the foreground and the light-filled areas of the midground.
