A Sicilian-born artist who immigrated to the United States in 1908, Frank Gervasi studied with masters such as Frank DuMond in New York. He lost his painting arm (right arm) in World War I, but was determined to continue painting. Before moving to Texas in the 1950s, Gervasi painted land and cityscapes in New York. He settled in West Texas and became well known for his Southwestern landscapes and still lifes.
