The history of this Thomas Hart Benton lithograph is closely tied to Jerry Bywaters and Southern Methodist University. In 1952 Benton, the leading proponent of Regionalism, lectured at the Dallas Museum of Art. During his stay in Dallas, Benton agreed to execute a lithograph for Southwest Review published by the SMU Press. This resulting lithograph bears the inscription in the plate "SMU Benton" in the lower left corner.
