The Organ Mountains are near the southern terminus of the Rio Grande's rift valley. The mountains are volcanic in origin and sheer shafts of granite stick up more than 5,000 feet from the desert floor. The shafts have the appearance of organ pipes, and hence the name of the mountain range.
The painting is inscribed verso: Organ Mountains between El Paso, Texas and Las Cruces, New Mexico.
A letter of provenance from the artist is included with the lot.
