0-3/4 h x 2-3/4 w x 1-7/8 d inches (1.9 x 7.0 x 4.8 cm)
Christie's London, June 2015, Sale 10397, lot 215;
Acquired above, private collection.
The hinged, ovular box, the cover inset with an enamel miniature of children playing in a rustic lakeside landscape, with a house in the background, plaque surrounded by stamped gold flower-heads within opaque pale blue enamel borders, sides and base enameled in a translucent sapphire-blue over chevron engine-turned ground within opaque light blue enamel frames, the four side pilasters with stamped flower-heads within lozenges on a sablé ground.
Estimate: $30,000 - $50,000.
A small pit mark to the opaque blue banding to the side, light scratches to the enameled panel to the base, otherwise with light surface scratches to the gold elements and enamel indicative of age and light use, presents well.
