A Rare Georg Jensen Silver Chalice, Copenhagen, Denmark, circa 1915-1919Marks: (GJ-925-S), (GEORG JENSEN), 175, (three towers), (1921), (assay initials), (London import marks)
6-3/8 inches high x 3-3/4 inches diameter (16.2 x 9.5 cm)
9.93 troy ounces
Note: Georg Jensen did not switch to the sterling standard until about 1927. He was known to have made special orders in 925/1000 purity for the American and English markets before that time period, of which this piece is likely representative. The underside of the chalice bears Jensen marks along with Danish silver assay marks by C.F. Heise (Assay Master from 1904-1932). The side of the chalice near the rim bears English importation marks signifying importation into London by George Stockwell for Stockwell & Co. in 1921. Stockwell imported a notable number of Jensen's silver wares during the 1920s-1930s.
The chalice having hand-hammered texture to inverted baluster cup, lower figured leaf-form skirt, beaded collar below, ribbed conical base raised on molded plinth.
