    The snuff box having case with scrolled repoussé rim to lid framing engraved scenery of balloon ascent titled THE NASSAU BALLOON, lower body with fruit and foliate motifs in repoussé, interior gilded, underside with alternating machined banding.

    The Great Nassau Balloon was constructed by famed English balloonist Charles Green in 1836. Green made a famous inter-continental ascent in the balloon on November 7-8 1836, leaving Vauxhall Gardens in Kennigton, England and descending at Weilburg in Nassau, Germany. The trip spanned five hundred miles with a total ride time of eighteen hours. Green would make many ascents in the balloon at various locations in England, France, and Germany.

    In apparently good condition with light wear to gilded interior, with light surface scratches commensurate with age, polishing, and use.
