    The trophy chalice having repoussé scenery depicting vineyard and wine production throughout cup, cartouche engraved to obverse To Louis L. Koch, Esq. for the best Essay on Grape-culture in America, From Robert Widmar, Publisher of Handels Zeitung. April 1859., reverse cartouche exhibiting the same engraving in German, textured grape and grape bunch collar below, standard with trompe l'oeil vine embellishments opening to conical base, base having repoussé grape and botanical motifs, raised on branch-form trim.

    The Mississippi Handels Zeitung was a German economic publication founded in St. Louis by Robert M. Widmar in 1857, which was later Anglicized and renamed the Mississippi Journal of Commerce in 1861. In 1880, the publication was renamed the Age of Steel and continued to be printed until 1901.

    Push at base resulting in cup exhibiting slight lean, otherwise presenting well with surface scratches commensurate with age, polishing, and use.
