    0-5/8 x 3-1/2 x 2-1/2 inches (1.6 x 8.9 x 6.4 cm)
    3.5 ounces (gross)

The shaped rectangular silver case with enameled decoration to the top depicting a elegantly attired man and woman in a landscape setting; gilt interior.

This cigarette case was originally intended to be included in Gorham Manufacturing Co.'s display at the 1893 Columbian World's Exposition which was held in Chicago. According to archival records the case was begun in 1893. However, due to delays at Gorham's New York enamel workshops, the case was not completed until the early part of 1894--several months after the close of the Exposition. While not signed, the enamel work displays the fine Viennese style enamel work executed by G. De Festetics, who was awarded six gold medals for his "exquisite enamel work."

Condition Report*: minor denting to bottom and corners of case; minor surface scratching; small losses to enamel at edges; wear to gilding.
