Description
A SET OF EIGHT AMERICAN SILVER MARTELÉ PLATESGorham Manufacturing Co., Providence, Rhode Island, circa 1906
Marks: Martelé, (eagle) (lion-anchor-G), .9584, KOR, SPAULDING & CO. CHICAGO
0-1/2 x 6-7/8 inches diameter (1.3 x 17.5 cm)
61.98 troy ounces
The eight Martelé pattern plates with meandering leafed vine over undulating rim, every other lobe with bouquet of four-petaled flowers. Originally retailed by Spaulding & Co., Chicago, Illinois.
According to the Gorham archive, this bowl was begun on May 1, 1906. Each plate took James Leckenby 2 1/2 hours to make with a further 16 1/2 hours of chasing by Ernest W. Regester. The net cost of production for each plate was $30.
