    PROVENANCE:
    Sotheby's London, Important English Silver, October 24, 1985, Lot 404;
    Acquired by the present owner from the above.

    PROPERTY FROM A PRIVATE EL PASO COLLECTION

    The pair of boats each having figural handles emanating from lion's mouths, cresting with putti bust mounts, bodies with oceanic radiating shell design exhibiting applied and chased shells and foliage, armorial tree and standard with motto SUB TEGMINE engraved below spouts, each raised on four figural conch feet.

    The present pair are identical copies of a pair of Paul de Lamerie examples, circa 1740, now housed in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Accession no. 2001.63.1; the original Lamerie examples which reside in the MFA were also sold during the October 24, 1985 sale at Sotheby's. The crest is likely that of the Beaufoy family.

    Condition Report*: Very light pushing to feet, presenting well with light surface scratching and wear commensurate with age, polishing, and use.
