A GERMAN JEWEL ENCRUSTED SILVER AND BONE CHESS SET

7-1/4 inches king (16.2 cm)

The black and white marble chessboard encased within a silver turreted castle base with crenellated towers at the four corners and chased ashlar block detailing, two locking doors on the front opening to reveal two sliding fitted wooden drawers containing the jewel encrusted courtly medieval players, the King, Queen and Bishops with carved bone heads and hands, the helmeted knight form pawns with carved bone heads.
This is one of three identical sets made during the early 1970s, one commissioned for the Hunt family in Dallas, one for the Rodeo Drive jeweler and silver dealer David Orgell, and this set.
