The helmet-shaped ewer on spreading conforming knopped gadroon bordered foot, the lower body with chased repoussé swirled flutes below applied zigzag band, molded wavy rim with everted lip, scrolled handle terminating in lion mask with acanthus leaf florish, engraved coat of arms of Fetherstonhaugh below lip; the circular shallow basin with chased repoussé swirled flutes at sides, braided rim and gadrooned center with the same engraved coat of arms.
Among the earliest extant examples of de Lamerie's work, the fierce lion mask on the handle is very similar to the masks on a massive wine cistern dating to 1719-1720 in the collection of The Minneapolis Institute of Arts.
