PROVENANCE:
Purchased by Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, December 24, 1900, for 110 rubles.
The jeweled and enamel belt buckle, which could be used on a variety of belts and cinches, was a standard part of the Edwardian ensemble. The empress is recorded as having purchased many such buckles and may have given them as gifts. The Christmas eve date of this purchase may indicate as such. A related buckle in blue with pearls and also by Perkhin is in the collection of the Hillwood Museum, Estate, and Gardens (Acc. No. 12.142; illus. Ziesler, W (ed.) Fabergé Rediscovered, Hillwood / D. Giles Ltd.: London, 2019, p. 112).
