    Acquired from the artist by Sue Nesbitt Kesler, 1946;
    Thence by descent to Jeanne Kesler Benn, 1970s;
    Thence by decent to the present owner, California, 2010.

    In 1962 Sue Kesler memorialized her meeting with Sandzen and the purchase of this painting with the following inscription on the reverse: In October 1946 I went to the School (Lindsborg) where Sandzen taught. Verla Baird Nesbitt Joscelyn to me, as she had attended Lindsborg and knew the Sandzens. Mr. S was tall, grey hair, intense blue eyes - I had wanted a Kansas scene but loved the colors in this one. Signed Susanna M Nesbit Kesler, written Feb. 22, 1962.
