Description

An Imperial Fabergé Presentation Diamond and Sapphire-Set Guilloché Enameled Gold Brooch
Fabergé, Workmaster August Hollming, St. Petersburg, 1896-1908
0-1/2 x 1-7/8 inches (1.3 x 4.8 cm)
8 grams (gross)

In original Fabergé presentation case.

The offered lot reads in Russian "Skierniewice" and is a jewel ordered by the Imperial cabinet for presentation at the Polish Royal Hunting lodge of Skierniewice, which was located near Lodz, Poland. In the 19th century, Grand Duke Konstantin Pavlovich built the first hunting palace there during his tenure as Viceroy of Poland. The estate became a favored location of the Russian emperors for hunting and other amusements. Brooches like the offered lot, which retains its original case, were sometimes given as gifts to valued guests and courtiers.
