    The lot comprising hot water kettle, teapot, coffee pot, hot chocolate pot, open sugar with gilt interior, open creamer with gilt interior, wastebowl with gilt interior, and tray, each vessel monogrammed EVS and JHH to opposing cartouches and with April 5, 1899 engraved to underside, tray with reverse presentation plaque: Emily Vanderbilt Sloane, on the occasion, of her marriage with, John Henry Hammond, from her aunt, Margaret L.V. Shepard, April 5th 1899.

    Emily Vanderbilt Sloane (1874-1970) was the daughter of Emily Thorn Vanderbilt (1852-1946), granddaughter of William Henry Vanderbilt (1821-1885), and the great-granddaughter of Cornelius Vanderbilt (1794-1877). She married John Henry Hammond at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church in New York City on April 5, 1899. The presenter, Margaret Louisa Vanderbilt (1845-1924) was Emily Thorn Vanderbilt's sister.

    Condition Report*: Light bend to one hot water kettle pin, possible solder strengthening to burner stretcher, light scratching to interior of vessels, tray with some scratching and light pit spot, underside of tray is lined with mahogany exhibiting light age-cracks and wear and scattered pitting to silver, plaque to reverse of tray lacquered with some areas of lacquer loss, chain length to one kettle pin with light solder, light push to repousse near cartouche to chocolate pot, minor age-related cracking to insulators, minor upturning to two feet to burner stand, sugar bowl likely lidded at one time, one insulator pin missing from teapot, presenting well with wear commensurate with age, polishing, and use.
