    The vessel with boat form cut and engraved rock crystal bowl mounted with mythological banded enamel decoration within silver gilt borders, hinged dipper in the form of a standing polychrome enameled mariner holding a spyglass, his body formed by a baroque pearl, the bowl supported by an enameled and silver gilt split tailed mermaid stem on oval cut and engraved rock crystal base mythological banded enamel decoration within silver gilt borders, the interior of foot similarly decorated.

    Traditionally the makers mark KB has been associated with Karl Bank, a Viennese jeweler working from 1895 until 1924. The mark is actually that of Karl Bender, located from 1875 until 1880 at Wienstrasse 63 and continuing from 1881 until 1892 at Gr├╝ngasse 25, who specialized in historical style gold and silver work as well as items in enamel and horn.
