The tea and coffee set, with chased ribbing to the body and swirling acanthus leaves and florals surrounding monogrammed cartouches, each example has applied ribbons to handles and acanthus stylized feet, lidded examples are topped with ring shaped floral finials.

The set was a gift to George W. Norton (1859-1934) and his wife Margaret A. Sarazine (1864-1910) by Martha Henry Norton (b. 1824), wife of banker and financier George Washington Norton (1814-1889).

Norton (1814-1889) established the Southern Bank in Russellville, Kentucky in 1850 and later established another bank when he relocated to Louisville in 1866. Norton and his father William Norton donated $60,000 to the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1893 to assist in the building of the original Norton Hall, located in downtown Louisville, Kentucky until 1926. George Washington Norton later invested in land out west, migrating to Texas when he was around 67.

Condition Report*: Service in overall very good condition with some wear commensurate of age and use. Slight bends to spirit burner, one burner pin, and front proper left foot of coffee pot. Professional repairs to handle of kettle-on-stand and tea pot spout. Handle loose on teapot.
