This trophy was presented to Reginald Vanderbilt at The Country Club's May 1907 equestrian show in Brookline, Massachusetts. Reginald Claypoole Vanderbilt (1880-1925) was an American millionaire and the youngest son of Cornelius Vanderbilt II. An avid supporter of the sport, Vanderbilt founded and served on boards of many equestrian organizations. At the time of the present lot's award, Vanderbilt owned Sandy Point Farm, a horse breeding establishment in Newport, Rhode Island. Tiger Lilly (Lily) was a Hackney stud that Vanderbilt used to exhibit and sire show horses. The Country Club is the oldest country club in the United States.
