The shaped match safe with diagonal bands of raised geometric design enameled in green alternating with diamond bands with fly over wire protecting blue enamel surface, design continuing to the reverse in horizontal bands, hinged lid set with gold quartz, leather covered bottom match strike, original case covered in iguana-hide opens to a satin lined fitted interior, the interior lid stamped in gold TIFFANY & CO., NEW YORK, PARIS, LONDON.

Due to the uncommon examples of 18K gold and enamel American match safes, it is conjectured that this example was created as an exposition piece. The match safe's undulating form and geometric enameled design are closely related to Native American-inspired designs created for the Paris 1889 Exposition Universelle by Paulding Farnham.
