    The trophy surmounted by urn-form finial, acanthus leaf and roundels chased to lid, two scrolled foliate handles, double helix and floral banding to rim of body, front engraved RODMAN WANAMAKER TROPHY ONE MILE RUN INVITATIONAL, reverse engraved Won by 1940-Charles H. Fenske-Madison, Wisconsin Time: 4 min 7 4/10 sec. 1941 Walter J. Mehl-Madison, Wisconsin 4 min 13 6/10 sec. 1942 Leslie Mitchell-N.Y.U. Time 4min 11 3/10 sec. Trophy awarded to Charles H. Fenske who's time was fastest over the three year period, body raised on domed base with banded leaf bunch chasework.

    The Wanamker Mile was the gold standard for the fastest indoor mile. Rodman Wanamaker was a department store mogul who formed the Professional Golfers' Association of America (PGA) and is for whom the PGA Championship trophy is named.
