    Description

A Large Southern Coin Silver Cat Tail and Water Lily Pitcher, attributed to Hayden and Whilden, Charleston, South Carolina, circa 1855
    14-3/4 inches high x 10 inches wide (37.5 x 25.4 cm)
    37.5 troy ounces

PROPERTY FROM THE COLLECTION OF DR. SIDNEY AND MR. GEORGE PERUTZ

The exquisite baluster-form coin silver pitcher with raised relief figural water lily spout, pebbled cat tail and foliate handle, body with raised relief illustrations of cat tails and water lilies with chased leaves and stems, central cartouche engraved PRESENTED BY S. WOLFF TO H. SYLVESTER ON HIS WEDDING DAY AUG. 17TH 1859. AS A TOKEN OF HIS ESTEEM, pointed leaf and stem collar, to base with cat tail and water lily relief design, raised on curved pedestal.

Note: This piece is unmarked, yet its high quality, form, and motif suggests a premier Southern firm as its creator. A pitcher of identical form without relief designs to spout or body marked by Hayden and Whilden was sold by Charlton Hall Galleries Inc in June 2006.
