    A Large Gorham Martelé Silver Platter, Providence, Rhode Island, circa 1904
    Marks: Martelé, (lion-anchor-G under eagle), 950-1000 FINE, G/XH, 16 IN

    The platter with a wide undulating rim with floral and foliage decoration in relief, monogrammed N&MS to central ground, obverse inscribed FROM THE TAILORS OF THE STEIN-BLOCH CO. 1855-JANUARY 23-1905.

    According to the Gorham Archive, production of the piece began on November 21, 1904, requiring 19 hours of production time carried out by F.O. Erichsen , with an additional 54 hours of chasing by Otto Colmetz. The final price was $165.

    Note: This plate was presented to Nathan and Mina Stein, a partner of the Stein-Bloch clothing firm in Rochester, NY, upon their 50th wedding anniversary.

    Condition Report*: Some scratching to central ground, scuffing to underside, otherwise with surface scratches commensurate with age, polishing and use.
