    From a Midwest Estate

    The tureen of oval form, having a covered lid with an applied finial of an arm clutching an arrow, with a gadrooned border to lid and rim of tureen, the body with applied floral and foliate mounts issuing two handles, the whole raised on four claw feet, the body centered on both sides with an engraved shield and a banner reading DILIGENTIA DITAT; inscription to underside reading These Tureens were presented to Abraham & Phebe Anne Milhouse, by their Nieces Margaret, Anne, & Catherine Perry, as a joint Tribute of Gratitude and Affection for the truly Parental care and Indulgence experienced by them during the Period they were under their Guardianship. Originally retailed by Payne & Sons, Oxford, England.

    Condition Report*: The interior of cover dented and slightly out of round, interior of tureen having scratches and surface scratches indicative of use, the underside with surface scratches, a dent and few nicks, the finial and handles quite secure, overall a sturdy piece with a lovely presentation.
