The carnet de bal or 'dance card' was a luxurious staple of the Belle Époque, in which a young woman would write the names of her partners for the various dances which punctuated balls of the period, such as the polonaise, waltz, and mazurka. The offered lot in the Louis XVI style joins a limited number of surviving Fabergé pieces of this type. For related examples, see Christie's Online, Russian Art 1-21, July 2020, lot 51, and a carnet de bal with similar composition attributed to Fabergé from The William Kazan Collection of Fabergé, sold Christie's, New York, April 15, 1997, lot 73.
