Zarco Guerrero is a visionary sculptor and performance artist whose masks, poetry, and theater promote cultural pride and social awareness. A founder of Xicanindio (now Xico, Inc.) and Cultural Coalition, Inc., Guerrero's art embodies the ideology of art as social service. Recognized with numerous awards-including the Arizona Governor's Arts Award and Esperanza Teacher of the Year-his work blends activism, spirituality, and aesthetics. Guerrero views the mask as a link to ancestry and earth, using it to challenge notions of identity and beauty.
