Conceived in 1963, Arp's Château des oiseaux was cast in bronze in an edition of 5 between 1967 and 1969. This first cast, produced by the Susse foundry in 1967, was acquired from Arp's longtime dealer and friend, Sidney Janis, by the noted American character actor Robert Laman Webber (1924-1989). Over a 40-year career, Webber appeared in dozens of films and television series. One of his most memorable roles was his portrayal of Juror No. 12 in the classic courtroom drama 12 Angry Men.
