BILL BARRETT (American, b. 1934)
Untitled, 1995
Bronze with verdigris
44 x 22 x 20 inches (111.8 x 55.9 x 50.8 cm)
Inscribed on base: Bill Barrett 95

Bill Barrett is a prolific artist whose career spans over thirty years. He was born in Los Angeles, California and graduated with an M.F.A. degree from the University of Michigan. He currently divides his time between New York and Santa Fe. The present sculpture reflects elements of the starkly different physical landscapes between the city and the desert. The form is composed of metal planes that curve and weave in and out of one another. This organic form is grounded by the contrasting rigid, planar properties of the metal. These contradictory forces of fluidity and rigidity ultimately strike a harmonic balance.

Barrett is represented in many corporate and museum collections including: the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, CT; the Cleveland Museum of Art, OH; the Knoxville Museum of Art, TN; the Museum of Fine Arts in Santa Fe, NM; the Harwood Museum, NM; the Fine Arts Museum of Oklahoma City, OK; the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, VA; the Utsukushi-ga-Hare Open Air Museum, Tokyo, Japan; and Runnymede Sculpture Farm, CA.
