PROPERTY FROM THE ESTATE OF STUART CUTSHALL, DALLAS
In 2017, in an effort to promote awareness of Native American art and culture, the Native American Student Association at Rogers State University, Claremore, Oklahoma, held a public celebration to recognize the work and influence of internationally acclaimed artist Allan Houser. The event, held in cooperation with the RSU, served to promote awareness of Native American art and culture both within the campus and in the community.
With another cast of Hunters Vision serving as a backdrop, speakers at the event included Bill Glass, Jr., a sculptor and ceramicist, and Mark Dolph, the associate curator of history at the Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa. Glass, who was named a Cherokee Living Treasure in 2009, shared about his experiences as both an apprentice and friend of Houser. Dolph discussed how the history of Houser's ancestral tribes being held as prisoners of war impacted both Houser's life and art (RSU.edu).
The university's cast of Hunters Vision remains a permanent installation on the college campus, and has become a universal symbol of challenge and triumph for all, students, professors and visitors alike.
