    ROBERT WOOD (1889-1979)
    Mount Ranier, 1940s
    Oil on canvas
    25in. x 30in.
    Signed lower right

    This painting will take your breath away. Overlapping massive rock forms take up the entire middle of the picture plane, the closest bathed in warm colors of the sun, the massive rock on the right turns a deep purple-blue from the atmospheric effects of the fading sun, and the mountain itself is cloaked in yellows and oranges from the sun's last direct rays. The rock ledge on the left provides a dramatic perspective from which the viewer sees the scene, and it acts to provide depth to the composition. The lone oak stands as a sentinal and provides balance to the painting.

    The painting is framed in an equally impressive hand-carved, gold-leaf period frame.
