    ROBERT PUMMILL (American, b.1936)
    Where the Wildflowers Grow, 2010
    Oil on canvas
    16 x 20 inches (40.6 x 50.8 cm)
    Signed lower right: Pummill

Bob Pummill's work is featured in the new book Texas Traditions by Michael Duty and Susan Hallsten McGarry.

Bob Pummill has fashioned a very successful career as a painter of the historic West. His panoramic scenes of driving cattle along dusty trails, of Native Americans pursuing fleeing buffalo, and of the quieter side of cowboy camps pitched after a long day, have gained him a wide following among collectors. He is a consummate storyteller who uses carefully composed paintings to convey to the viewer a sense of the adventure and drama of the Old West. He is also equally talented at capturing the beauty of the countryside near his Hill Country home in Kerrville, Texas. In recent years, while continuing to produce sweeping paintings of Indians on the plains and cowboys at work, he has also increasingly turned his attention to depicting the Texas landscape. In doing so, he continues the tradition of such notable early Texas artists as Julian Onderdonk. Where the Wildflowers Grow echoes the efforts of those earlier artists, but does so with a modern perspective and style that Pummill has developed over a forty-year career as an artist.
