    François Joseph Truphème was born in Aix and died in Paris. He was a pupil of Bonnassieux at the Écôle des Beaux-Arts, Paris, and exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon from 1850 on. Much in demand for his exceptional work as a portraitist and architectural sculptor, Truphème was awarded commissions throughout France. He produced sculptural decoration for the Louvre and the Palace of Justice in Paris, the Écôle de Dessin Marseille, and the churches of Ste-Clothilde and Trinité in Paris, among many others.
