Acquired by the present owner from the above.

The signature, date, title, and number were posthumously added by the artist's wife, Sylvia Lester.

William Lewis Lester joined an innovative group of young Texas regionalists, including Jerry Bywaters and Otis Dozer, called the Dallas Nine after studying with fellow member Olin Travis. This group would excel in making Dallas one of the most dynamic centers of American Regionalism during the 1930s and 1940s. These regionalists used strong compositions, and increasingly abstract forms to convey their ideas and feelings toward a particular subject.
