Peter Milton and Ted Pillsbury share a number of Yale connections. Milton studied painting and printmaking at Yale under Josef Albers and Gabor Peterdi, and received his MFA in 1961, the same year Ted began his first year of undergraduate coursework there. Although at different times, both men taught courses at Yale and both worked at the Yale University Art Gallery--Milton as assistant registrar and Ted as director. This is one of Peter Milton's earliest etchings, which he produced just three years after learning the extensive degree of his red-green color blindness. The artist made a conscious choice to focus on black-and-white work as a result of this diagnosis. Within his restricted palette, the artist has explored vast artistic terrain over the years, and is now creating exciting work of great complexity with digital media.
